Ever since I acquired my first digital camera in December 2002, I have committed myself to capturing one self-portrait every day. Using an inkjet printer, I repeatedly overlay the images from a single month onto the exact same position on a sheet of paper, with the date of each day printed consistently at the top of the frame. As the layers of ink accumulate, the portrait gradually becomes blurred and darkened, eventually receding into total blackness. At the start of each month, I begin anew with a fresh sheet of paper and repeat this process. Subsequently, these monthly portraits are scanned and superimposed onto a single sheet to form a composite image of the entire year. This is conceived as a lifelong endeavor.

Regarding the question of subjectivity, I personally align with the Buddhist concept of "Non-self" ("Anatman"); this is precisely why I titled this project "The Denial One-Self-Portrait Journal". Our appearance is, in fact, aging and transforming with every passing second—this is what we call impermanence. The human face is merely a continuous, fluctuating state of manifestation; without the recognition of the mind and the framing of concepts, the "existence" and "perception" of a subject would not persist. Our being does not exist within an objective world where we merely experience impermanence; rather, it is impermanence itself that creates our sensation of time passing and space existing. In the repetitive printing of daily portraits and dates, slight misalignments and overlapping of ink inevitably occur. These very displacements and overlaps serve to manifest the subtle progression of time.
