Measuring the Length of the Brooklyn Bridge Connecting Brooklyn and Manhattan.
Method: Measuring the Length of the Brooklyn Bridge Connecting Brooklyn and Manhattan.
Method: The performer measured the length of the Brooklyn Bridge using the Tibetan Buddhist prostration, a full-body bowing practice. Wearing knee pads, the performer began prostrating forward from the starting point of the Brooklyn Bridge on the Brooklyn side, at the intersection of Brooklyn Bridge Blvd and Tillary St. Upon bowing to the ground, a horizontal chalk line was drawn at the furthest point reachable by outstretched arms, and the number of the prostration was written in front of the line. The performer then stood behind this line, faced forward, and performed another prostration, repeating the process of drawing a line and marking the count, moving forward in this manner until reaching the endpoint of the Brooklyn Bridge on the Manhattan side, at the intersection of Brooklyn Bridge Promenades and Centre St.
As each prostration represents the performer's full body length, the basic unit of measurement can be defined as one "Jin-Hua." Therefore, if the performer completed 750 prostrations to cross the bridge, the length of the Brooklyn Bridge can be stated as 750 "Jin-Huas."
