After my father passed away in late 2011, I began chanting the Ksitigarbha Sutra, with a total goal of 1,720 recitations. I later decided to transform this into a performance art series using "Pen Walking." My idea was that for every recitation of the Ksitigarbha Sutra, I would draw Ksitigarbha Bodhisattva once with a pencil, or draw until a sharpened pencil tip was used up. Then, I'd paste the pencil shavings, sharpen the pencil again, and repeat the process of chanting, sharpening, drawing the image, and pasting the shavings. It took 108 repetitions to complete this single image.

While drawing this image, I typically listened to Teacher Yang Kunsheng's MP3 lectures on the Ksitigarbha Sutra, drawing as I listened, repeating the lectures over and over. I came to understand Ksitigarbha Bodhisattva's filial piety and boundless compassion, and the endless vows of compassion made repeatedly over many lifetimes: vowing not to attain Buddhahood until all beings are liberated. As a result, the Ksitigarbha Bodhisattva in this drawing, which initially seemed to emerge from thin air, gradually became a dense, layered expanse of lines, with Ksitigarbha Bodhisattva standing firmly on a ground made of pencil shavings.

To fix the image in mind,
To observe the dimension of solitude, the dimension of life's journey,
The heart's strokes.

自2011年尾父親過世後開始誦唸地藏經，總目標是1720部，我後來決定將此轉變為走筆系列的行為藝術。我的構想是每唸一部地藏經，就以鉛筆畫一遍地藏菩薩，或是把一段削出的鉛筆畫完，然後黏貼鉛筆屑，之後再削鉛筆，重複上述誦經、削鉛筆、畫像、貼鉛筆屑的過程。在經歷108遍後才完成這張畫像。

在畫這個像時我通常一邊聽楊昆生老師講地藏經的MP3，一邊畫像，聽完再聽，一再重複。我體會到地藏菩薩的孝行與廣大慈悲，多生重複發了沒有窮盡的悲願，眾生若不解脫，誓不成佛。結果這張圖的地藏菩薩從剛開始猶如在虛空中浮現，到後來線條密密實實疊成一片，地藏菩薩紮實的站在鉛筆屑鋪成的土地。
