Taiwanese artist Shi Jin-Hua’s new work “Father’s Rock #5,” will be exhibited for the first time at ART TAIPEI 2023. Father's Rock #5 is a painting in ink, graphite, and dust from stones. It depicts the textures of stones collected by the artist's father, using a close-up composition and abstract brushstrokes to transform them into a dripping landscape.
SHI Jin-Hua is a concept and performance artist. He was born in Magong, on Penghu Island in 1964, and currently lives and works in Kaohsiung City. SHI was diagnosed with diabetes when he was young, and he had to inject insulin, monitor and record various health parameters on a daily basis since the age of 17. This unique experience has made him painfully aware of his state of living at all times. It has also led him to treat his own body as a “the other '', a tool, a vessel through which he expresses his spirituality in his artistic endeavors. SHI is a figure of historical significance in Taiwan’s concept and performance art scene. His works were exhibited at the Taipei Biennial and at the Asian Art Biennial on several occasions.
