The Pioneers of Taiwanese Artists 1961-1970: National Taiwan Museum of Fine Arts, Taichung, Taiwan
"The Pioneers of Taiwanese Artists,” a series of exhibitions organized by the National Taiwan Museum of Fine Arts (NTMOFA) in Taichung City, features the works of Taiwanese artists born in the six decades between 1931 and 1980. By categorizing them into six "grades” or classes, the exhibitions showcase the artists' unique personal styles and provide an insight into the fine arts scene in Taiwan after World War II.
Having experienced things that the previous generations could not, they were given the opportunity to reinvent genres, themes, methods, and perspectives. They were able to enjoy a modern lifestyle, to explore their cultural identities and views, to reflect on and analyze the essence of art, and to pursue experimentalism.
The "fifth-grade” exhibition, the fourth of its kind, focuses on 22 selected artists born between 1961 and 1970. These artists embarked on their careers in the mid- and late 1980s, which marked the beginning of a truly "contemporary” period of Taiwanese art.
