On a wood-patterned floor mat, I perform the ritual of the Great Homage, with the goal of completing it 111,111 times. Each time I lower my body, I press a counter placed at the front of the mat. After each session, I record the accumulated total. As time passes, the repeated motion gradually wears away the surface, leaving pale marks—traces where the printed pattern has been rubbed off. To date, I have completed 80,791 prostrations.
In sculpture, processes are generally divided into additive and subtractive: modeling adds material, while carving removes it. This work is a subtractive sculpture. My body serves as the chisel, and the slowly accumulating friction carves my form into the surface. The Great Homage is also a method for softening pride. Through this repeated physical movement, one lays down ego and arrogance in search of truth and refuge. This is a sculpture shaped not by tools, but by spirit.
